Mobilizing Superior Equipment

For premium equipment in the nation's top natural gas producing markets, Grey Wolf is the leader of the pack.

As technology reshapes the profile of the land drilling business, Grey Wolf's top-rated fleet of 121 domestic rigs features the technological advances that capture the imagination of geologists and drilling engineers, leading them to expand today’s drilling horizons to natural gas plays once considered too small or too costly to pursue.

Our fleet includes versatile, high-horsepower, diesel electric equipment and is dominated by rigs capable of achieving depths exceeding 15,000 feet – equipment that is well-suited to the challenges of deep, horizontal or directional drilling for natural gas on land.

In addition, Grey Wolf’s newly developed, fit-for-purpose Production and Drilling System Rig (PaDSRig™) offers operators a time-efficient, safe and cost-effective rig for drilling multiple wells from a single “pad” location.

Equipment Highlights:

  • 70% of our rigs are diesel electric or trailer mounted
  • 75% of rigs are rated above 1,000 horsepower
  • 25% of our fleet is 2,000- to 4,000-horsepower equipment
  • Extensive trucking fleets in the South Texas and Ark-La-Tex divisions assure efficient and cost-effective rig moves
  • 29 top-drive units enhance drilling efficiency

Grey Wolf consistently invests in upgrades, including productivity-enhancing top drives, that have propelled the company's fleet to the technological forefront as it achieves the competitive advantage in key natural gas markets.

Grey Wolf rigs are technology driven, competing favorably with new builds because of our investments in key upgrades such as digital instrumentation, satellite communications, 6,000-kilowatt diesel-fueled electric generators, emission-reducing Tier II engines, highly efficient mud circulating components including 1,600 horsepower pumps, electric drilling systems that are sensitive to weight on the bit and pump pressure, wireless controlled automated hydraulic catwalks that pull pipe from the rack and lift it to the rig floor, and automated iron roughnecks that can thread 9 ½-inch drill collar as easily as 5-inch pipe.

The company also invests in ancillary equipment that minimizes unexpected events and improves productivity, including top drives and Link-Belt cranes that provide the heavy-lift capacity to speed rig ups and rig downs.
